Greek Goddesses provide images of the feminine that have stayed alive in human imagination for more than three millennia. Each one mirrors rich and diverse facets of being a woman and can help us become conscious of aspects of ourselves we were barely aware of before. As guides in the realm of the inner feminine, these goddesses may also show us gifts and potentials within ourselves we wish to strengthen, clarify or transform and help us access our own feminine wisdom more deeply.

In this group we will creatively explore the ways in which each of the goddesses may be a guide or an inspiration to any of us individually or collectively. Engaging in imaginative processes such as creative movement, painting, sand play, enactment, poetic writing, and toning, each participant will take her own journey through the rich landscapes of the feminine guided by the goddesses' ways of being and discover which facets of herself she wishes to unfold, harmonize or bring to greater fruition in her life and her relationships.

“You must give birth to your images. They are the future waiting to be born.”
Rainer Maria Rilke

For Jung, psyche reveals itself in its creative images which beckon us to befriend the intuitive wisdom they offer, guiding and nurturing us towards greater balance and wholeness. In the images of our night world we witness the mysteries of the soul. Dreams, Jung says, are messengers of meanings that are embodied and inscribed in the images themselves. As we explore dream images creatively and attune ourselves to the imagistic qualities of their shapes and colors, their volumes, movements and rhythms, they disclose new insights and evoke rich intuitive resonance, while at the same time remaining rooted in their fertile, imaginal ground.

In this group, participants will explore their dreams as a practice of befriending the soul. You will engage the images of your night worlds with creative practices such as movement and painting, toning, enactment, story-making and active imagination through the body. You will dance your dreams to discover, befriend and harvest its messages for growth, transformation and healing.

“You must give birth to your images. They are the future waiting to be born.”
Rainer Maria Rilke

The images of our psyche dwell deeply in our body. They are the seedpods of the creative imagination, waiting to burst open into awareness. When we embrace an attitude of letting all our senses listen inwardly, the inner world of bodily felt sensations and images opens up to our kinesthetic, intuitive, imagistic witnessing. In this openness, we touch the fertile ground of the psyche as the inward dimension of the body.

Through dance/movement, enactment as well as other imaginative modalities, the images of the soul may then be born into creative expression. When we weave together the living fabric of embodied experience with creative expression, both body and soul can come into deeper, more fluid conscious belonging and enrich our celebratory awareness of being and becoming.

In this workshop you will explore the landscapes of your bodysoul through creative movement, collage, painting and drawing, enactment, poetic writing and toning. You will free your embodied imagination and establish a personal relationship with the creative spirit which dwells in the body.

“We create as we are created in a matrix of interconnectedness with all of life. We are participatory in a creative universe.”
Sally Akins

When we cherish, celebrate and delight in our own creative expression, alone and as a group, we enter the mystery of being. We enter at once the heart of transformation and healing. Drawing on the palette of multimodal expressive arts, the “prima materia” for this workshop will be our creative spirit, images, art, authentic movement, poetry, active imagination, toning, and creative writing, as well as the natural environment with its bounty of shapes and textures, colors, fragrances and sounds as part of the fabric and the setting for our workshop.

Whether you wish to free your own creativity or gain additional tools for guiding your clients in their journey of transformation, join us in this celebration of the embodied creative spirit at the core of our being.

Art materials are provided. Bring your own favorite journal.

Yoga Asanas and the Emotions:
Freeing the Body, Healing the Mind

January 27, 2007
1 - 5 PM

4 CEUs for MFTs and LCSWs

Stress Management Center of Marin
1165 Magnolia Avenue
Larkspur

Our body is our most immediate home on earth. It is the receptacle of our stories, our experiences, our fears and our hopes, sculpted in the flesh of our being. It is also the guardian of our insights and intuitions, our longing-to-become and our celebration of life on earth.

By bringing attention to the kinesthetic experience, yoga allows the emotions and feelings that have taken a silent shape in our muscles, in our posture and movements, to come to conscious awareness. Performing yoga asanas and breathwork as a practice of embodied awareness enables us to align our physical body with our emotional body and our spiritual body, stretching both physically and psychologically into new postures and new attitudes of openness, well-being and joyful relatedness.

This workshop develops personal and professional skills through the increased ability for kinesthetic attunement to self and others. You will practice asanas and breathing practices and engage in visual creativity and guided imagery to further experience and express the physical and the emotional energy of the body. You will have a visual "log" of your yogic experience to continue your work and be reminded of the potentials of your being.

For fee and to register, please call the Stress Management Center of Marin, (415) 461-2288. http://www.smcmarin.com

Yoga Asanas a
nd the Emotions:
Creative Exploration of the Body Self

March 3 - 4, 2007

The Yoga Loft
321 Divisadero St.
San Francisco

10 CEUs for MFTs and LCSWs

Our body is our most immediate home on earth. It is the receptacle of our stories, our experiences, our fears and our hopes, sculpted in the flesh of our being. It is the guardian of our insights and intuitions, our longing-to-become and our celebration of life on earth.

Yoga asanas and breath practices allow restricting kinesthetic-emotional-imaginal experiences, that have taken a silent shape in our muscles, in our posture and movements, to come to  awareness and be experienced consciously. This freeing of the body through awareness in turn fosters the ability to better sense embodied intuitions of constructive postural and  mental-emotional changes, which may find expression in a greater range of motion and creative emotions. Gaining greater freedom  from restricting physical and mental-emotional holding patterns allows our physical body, our emotional body and our spiritual body to find a more harmonious alignment. We may then stretch both physically and psychologically into new postures and new attitudes of openness, well-being and joyful relatedness, unfolding more freely towards the three harmonies of Ahimsa, harmony with others, with the environment and with oneself.

In this workshop you practice yoga asanas, kinesthetic awareness meditation and breathing. To integrate the kinesthetic-emotional-imaginal experiences encountered in the body, you give them symbolic expression through guided imagery, active imagination, painting, toning and creative writing. You will have a visual "log" of your yogic experience to continue your work and be reminded of your embodied intuitions of harmonious and joyful transformation.

Yoga and Jungian Psychology
:
Eastern and Western
Journeys of Transformation

September 8 - 9 , 2007

John F. Kennedy University
100 Ellinwood Way
Pleasant Hill, CA 94523

13 CEUs for MFTs and LCSWs

This workshop will bring together the embodied wisdom of yoga and the creative vision of Jungian psychology. Together, these traditions offer an integral experiential matrix for psychological and spiritual growth, in which psyche is rooted in body, and body provides a strong and balanced container for the transformation of psyche and spirit.

Lectures, discussions and substantiating literature will explore the essence of yogic, embodied practices of transformation together with the psychological and spiritual ground in which they are embedded. They will equally explore the transformative journey of individuation at the heart of Jungian psychology, bringing to life and unfolding the natural affinity in intent, spirit and practice of the two paths.

Participants will engage in kinesthetic-meditative awareness practices, foundational yoga postures, breath work, active imagination and other symbolic processes to experience the rich dimensions of embodied transformative insights these integrated practices offer.

This workshop is designed for clinicians, students, yoga practitioners, and the interested general public. Clinicians will gain tools to facilitate in others psychological and spiritual growth grounded in embodied experience. Practitioners of yoga will gain increased awareness for working with asanas and breath to transform both the physical and the emotional body. Anyone interested in learning more about the nature and spirit of Jungian psychology or of Ashtanga yoga will find this workshop a valuable resource to deepen their intellectual and their embodied, intuitive understanding.

Sophia Reinders, Ph.D., MFT, is a Jungian psychotherapist in private practice in San Francisco and Marin, a certified Iyengar yoga teacher, and faculty at CIIS. Philosophy, Psychology
and Practice of Yoga:
Journey Towards Harmony with the Spirit

October 20 - 21 , 2007

The Yoga Loft
321 Divisadero St.
San Francisco

10 CEUs for MFTs and LCSWs

This course will experientially unfold and describe the psycho-spiritual ground of yoga philosophy and psychology, in which the practice of yoga is embedded. This philosophical - psychological understanding, developed through practice over millennia, reflects the insights of the ancient yogis and the awareness to which their practices led them.

Exploring the eight limbs, or living principles of yoga and the yogic path, we will clarify the spirit and the intent of these practices. Through asanas, breathing practices and kinesthetic awareness practices, we will explore the five koshas, or sheeths of the physical and the subtle body. We will engage in the art of yoga which consists in refining, transforming, aligning and integrating the qualities of energy and consciousness within each dimension of our physical-mental-emotional being through sustained practice and growing awareness.

Sustained practice over time creates, in the view of the ancient yogis, a physical and mental-emotional vessel capable of sustaining empathic action and of giving rise to the intuitive realization of Spirit at the core of our being.

In this process of sustained practice, then, we may become more and more fluid in our bodymind. We may also become more and more constructive, creative and aware in our ways of being in the world: In the quality of our actions, thoughts and emotions, and in relating to others, to self, and to life all around.
